Fun Ways to Make it Through the End of 2021

It’s that fun time of the year where it’s getting serious because it’s near the end of the semester, but difficult to be serious because holidays and vacations are quickly approaching. Some students have work to finish, while others completed the entire semester in October. And the more exhausted teachers feel, the more energy the students seem to have. In anticipation of all of this, I’ve been working on my December collection of resources, which you can find here. It includes links to wintery activities, as well as specific holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa). There are lesson ideas, puzzles and games, and arts and crafts. Just a few things you will find are:

If you look at the collection on a computer screen (instead of on your phone), you will see that I divided the resources into columns this year to make it a bit easier to find things.

Sometimes you just need to do something silly and non-curriculum-related, so I also made another collection that I’ve creatively named, “Fun Stuff,” with links to things like Google’s Blob Opera, a Rebus Generator, and Google’s Quick Draw.

And don’t forget I have a set of Brainteasers and Puzzles that also might do when you are looking for something to fill in some extra time.

You can see all of my public Wakelet collections here. Hopefully you will find a resource or two to help you make it through December!

myRebus

UPDATE 3/26/2020: If the website below does not work for you, try this one instead.

myRebus is a fun tool that teachers can use to create picture sentences for students to solve.  For example, I made the one below for the students who signed up for my summer Google Classroom.  Can you tell what it says?  The site allows you to type in any sentences and it will generate the rebus for you.  It does ask for you to input your e-mail to have the rebus sent to you, but I just take a screenshot.  This could be a fun alternative for spelling practice or even a strategy to get students to pay attention to directions on an assignment.  Another great use is for Breakout Edu clues! For students who want to create rebus puzzles, they can use this site, or you might want to take a look at this lesson plan I wrote for Canva.

Easter Creative Thinking Packet

I have added an Easter Creative Thinking Packet to my Teachers Pay Teachers store.  It is now available for $1.00.  It includes brainstorming ideas, as well as printable worksheets for each of the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. creative thinking tools created by Bob Eberle.  My gifted students in 1st-5th enjoy these S.C.A.M.P.E.R. packets, as the activities give them the chance to stretch their imaginations.  We are in the home stretch right now for the school year, and thinking outside the Easter basket could lessen some of the stress!
