Seriously Amazing is a fascinating website produced by Smithsonian. It reminds me a bit of Wonderopolis in that you could browse it for a few moments and realize pretty quickly just how many things you don’t know, but would really like to investigate. This would be another great website to use to jumpstart any students who need ideas for Genius Hour projects, or any kind of independent research.
The topics include: Art, History, Culture, and Science. You can also browse the site by the most recent projects or the most popular. As far as I can tell, there is no search feature, so this is probably not a place to visit if you already have a set research topic. When you land on the main site, you will see a mosaic of pictures, questions, and tweets. Click on any of these to find out more. Some of the additional information may include links or videos. You will also be given several sharing options when you click on an individual topic.
The collection at Seriously Amazing will definitely intrigue and engage its viewers. You might feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland once you jump into it, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to browse!
