I found the article, “Seeking Inspiration in All the Wrong Places” on the blog, “Creative Something.” It’s a short post that I think really gets to the crux of being creative. So often, when I ask my students to do something creative, they try to imitate something they have already seen. This is why I try not to give them examples if I can help it. Some of them are so desperate to “do it right” that they can’t understand when I say that there is no wrong way to do it (except to copy someone else!) Check out the video below for a great example of the type of creativity that happens when you make unusual connections. I need to find more activities that will reinforce this method of looking for inspiration in unexpected places. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
